Highly detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV) A-7 Corsair II, a Vietnam War era American carrier-based subsonic light attack aircraft. First introduced in 1967 to replace the highly successful A-4 Skyhawk of the U.S. Navy, the A-7 was subsequently adopted by the U.S. Air Force, as well as the Air National Guard, to replace the A-1 Skyraider, F-100 Super Sabre and F-105 Thunderchief. LTV adopted the proven airframe of the Chance-Vought F-8 Crusader in designing the A-7, resulted in a new aircraft that shared many visual similarities to the venerable F-8. However, unlike the F-8 Crusader, the A-7 was a subsonic attack aircraft and not a fighter, and it was initially fitted with a single Pratt & Whitney TF30-P-6 turbofan without the afterburner needed for supersonic speeds. Further development of the A-7 to meet U.S.A.F. specifications lead to the highly successful A-7D variant fitted with an Allison TF41-A-1 turbofan and M61 Vulcan cannon, and the success of the A-7D lead the Navy to develop its own version with the TF41 engine and M61 cannon, resulting in the A-7E variant. The A-7 proved to be a solid attack aircraft, and it remained in active service until 1993, when it was replaced by the next generation attack-fighters like the U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon and Navy F/A-18 Hornet. This Fujimi 1/72 scale assembly kit comes with decals for A-7A of the U.S. Navy Attack Squadron 93 (VA-93), also known as the "Blue Blazers".
