Connie Palmer was born and raised on a farm in a small farming community in eastern Oregon. Being raised around all the farm animals, her favorite has always remained horses. Growing up with horses she attended horse 4-H, trail rides, cattle drives, and herding cattle on the farm. Her love and respect for horses remains to this day. In 1977 her husband Rick began working for the Bureau of Land Management in Vale, Oregon. During his years there he helped to round up over 10,000 head of wild horses. During that time Connie was able to view many wild horses of all colors and markings and a great love for the wild horses was gained. Some years later from this experience she was able to write the story of running, capturing, and adoption of the wild horse. And so the story was written: I Will Run Free No More.
