This publication is a technical manual aimed at soil scientists and soil correlators to facilitate the exchange of information and experience and to provide a common scientific language to enhance communication with other disciplines. It contains the definitions and diagnostic criteria of soil horizons, soil properties and soil materials and gives rules and guidelines for classifying and subdividing soil reference groups.
