Maria Innocetia Hummel was born as Berta Hummel, on 21th of May 1909 in Massing, Germany. Already as a young girl an artistic talent became apparent, when she drew caricatures of classmates and teachers. She studied 1927 at the Academy of Applied Arts in Munich, but she joined in 1931 the Franciscan monastery in Sießen . 1933 she was dressed and named Maria Innocetia since then. As once the owner of the W. Goebel porcelain factory in Oeslau, Mr. Franz Goebel, saw a book with designs by Mrs. Hummel, he was so impressed by the drawings that he wanted to make this available as figures with his manufactory.
