Jason Dove’snewest release Pronto(Carbon & Monoxide) is an exciting sonic departure from previously acclaimed releases in Atlanta bands such as Plexorjet and Slot Racer, the former of which landed him spots on several seasons of MTV’s Road Rules and “Best 7” of the Year” from Punk Planet. Originally tracked in 2003 in Atlanta, GA with original Slot Racer members Brett Jones and Michael Griffeth, Dove has relocated to Baltimore and is finally releasing the finished recordings on the new Carbon & Monoxideimprint. Prontooscillates effortlessly between the lovelorn pathos of “Oh My God” to the upbeat acoustical vibrations of “Girl, My Love is Like Keno”, somehow blending the influences of artists like Elvis Costello, Led Zeppelin, and Buddy Hollyinto a cohesive mix. A writer for the popular counterculture ‘zine Chunkletand his own award-winning web-blog, Dove’s uses his ability as a music journalist to devise a narrative strain that captivatingly weaves the texture of his intense palette into resonant form, and his compositional foresight is unassuming as it is intense. Unlike many talented songwriters, though, Dove also manages to match his mercurial instrumental talent with an evocative voice, phrasing cathartic melodies into vibrant conceptual gems. Dove has previously performed with a myriad of other notable artists, including Trans Am, Shipping News, Come, Battles, Les Savy Fav, Oxes, Cat Power, & Crooked Fingers. He will be touring the U.S. in October both solo and with his current 3piece lineup, performing material from Prontoas well as a fully recorded yet-to-be-titled followup album.
