The Fluke 1623 GEO earth ground tester performs 3-pole and 4-pole fall-of-potential, 4-pole soil resistivity, selective, and stakeless resistance testing of grounding systems for commercial and industrial applications. The tester is suitable for use in planning lightning protection systems and for regular monitoring and maintenance of ground protection systems, such as high-voltage pylons, buildings, electrical service grounding systems, mobile communication stations, and HF transmitters. Stakeless testing measures earth ground loop resistances using only clamps, with no need for earth ground stakes or disconnecting of ground rods. The unit displays the stakes or clamps that need to be connected after selecting the type of test to be performed. The meter’s large, clear display and one-button operation are designed for ease of use, even while wearing gloves. The housing is rated as IP 56 for outdoor use, with protection against dust and water spills. The battery door is rated as IP 40 for protection from wires and screws. The instrument is manufactured in compliance with quality assurance system DIN ISO 9001. Safety ratings include CAT II and 300 V. Ground-resistance meters are used by electricians and contractors working in industrial, utility, and field servicing. The Fluke 1623 earth ground tester comes with two measuring leads, one connector cable, two alligator clips, six batteries, and a user manual. Specifications Measuring voltage Vm = 48V AC Short circuit current >50mA Measure frequency 128Hz (125Hz on request for stakeless ground loop) Resolution 0.001 Ω to 10Ω Measuring range 0.001Ω to 19.99Ω Intrinsic error + or - 2% of reading + or - 3 digit Operating error + or - 5% of reading + or - 3 digit Working temperature -10 degrees to +5- degrees C Operating temperature 0 to 35 degrees C Power source (6) 1.5V AA batteries (included) Weight 1.1kg (including batteries) Dimensions 133 x 250 x 187mm (H x W x D)H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back. Ground-resistance meters test the condition of a grounding system, and provide resistivity measurements in ohms. The meters are available in digital, analog, and clamp models. Grounding systems protect people and equipment, and provide a safe path for the dissipation of fault currents, lightning strikes, static discharges, EMI and RFI signals, and interference. Regular testing of a grounding system is important for safety and protection of equipment. For example, corrosive soil with high moisture content can degrade ground rods and connections in existing systems and increase the resistance of the system. Ground-resistance meters are used in conjunction with a variety of testing methods to troubleshoot intermittent electrical problems or as part of a regular maintenance plan. Fluke Corporation manufactures electrical testing tools and software for industrial and commercial applications. The company, founded in 1948, is headquartered in Everett, WA. What’s in the Box?
