Jonathan Hustler examines how different approaches have been taken to the construction of sermons in different periods and how leading exponents of preaching have shaped their material in order to proclaim their message. The homiletic structures which he studies are seen not simply as historical exemplars but as patterns which can still be used today, with practical suggestions as to how the techniques of past masters can be adapted to contemporary needs.
