Having whetted his appetitie by publishing the notes and recordings of his father"s railway activities in the 1920"s and 1930"s in "Diary of an Early Trainspotter", John has now put pen to paper again to record his own railway adventures. These span a period equal to two-thirds of a century, from the time he was little more than a babe in arms, through his school days in Plymouth, his early working years in London, his married life in Weston-super-Mare and, more recently, his grand-parenting role in the same town. The record is comprehensively illustrated, mostly with his own photographs but supplemented in the earlier years with others taken by some well-known railway photographers, which have been made available through the Transport Treasury. Railway buffs will delight in this collection of nostalgic reminisces which admirably illustrate how the railway scene has changed since the end of World War II. No doubt memories will be rekindled in those of us old enough to recall the railways of the steam age but there is also plenty to interest the later enthusiast with a well-illustrated assessment of the post-steam era.
