Sometimes music lovers get to thinking that Alicia de Larrocha is the only pianist worth hearing in music like this. She is wonderful, but there is room for other worthwhile interpretations and this is one of them. Eric Parkin, most of whose recordings have been English music, proves to be a wonderful Granados player. He has the massive technical requirements well under control, and his playing is so languorous and downright sexy that it leaves a lasting impression. Recorded in superbly resonant and realistic sound, this is one of the greatest recordings of Spanish piano music ever made by someone other than de Larrocha. --Leslie Gerber
