College Chinese, together with A Companion Book for College Chinese, is a four-volume textbook set designed for a first-year college Mandarin Chinese course, focusing on students" involvement within as well as outside of the classroom. The 40 lessons are introduced through events that center on a college campus. Each lesson contains readings; vocabulary lists and tests in characters, pinyin, and English; grammar explanations; indices; and pattern drills.
