A one-off recording for the Colpix label in 1963, this set by "Mr. Five-By-Five" further demonstrates the man could swing & sell a ballad, all with the same conviction and style. As with most of the now-collectable Colpix/Colgems recordings of the 1960s, the sound on this Rushing set is incredible, having been transferred directly from the original 3 track masters, capturing the intimacy of his phrasing while letting the backing musicians cut through in a crystal clear accompaniment. Highlights abound in jazz chestnuts & newer tunes alike.
