The Teenage Years
This guidebook for parents of teenagers is a companion to the RTE Radio 1 series of the same name. It aims to help Irish parents understand the problems and the difficulties experienced by adolescents. The authors examine the many problems of growing up through adolescence, including sexuality, friendship, bullying and shyness. The sensitive issues of bereavement, depression and family separation are also explored. Chapters are provided on the controversial issues of drug addiction, alcohol abuse, eating problems, emotional breakdown and the role of discipline. Advice is also given on how to cope with study and examination pressure. The book brings together the academic and communication skills of the worlds of psychology and broadcasting in Ireland. The text is aimed at the non-expert, and provides useful insights to the complicated process of growing up.
