No Grey Area

Graduating high school and going off to college: there"s no way a former boozer and hellion, aka Cam Lantuzzi, would ever get that chance? But Cam found a way, and a fresh start for the young outspoken liberal might be his ticket to happiness. Houston Central College is only about an hour away from his conservative hometown of Kinsey, Texas, yet worlds apart in tradition, diversity, and ideas. Especially ideas like dating someone from a different race. A slim African American girl named Randess Houghton plays the part. Intrigued by the outspoken Cam, she wants to know more. So do others, and a few of the curious onlookers aren"t too accepting of their budding romance. The pressure from parents, friends, and bystanders begins to mount. Can the couple handle it? More importantly, can they stay safe in the grips of a racist group"s misguided hate? Hate much more serious than a passerby"s condemning glance. Cam"s earlier years in Kinsey were a mess. He was a troublemaker. Wrecking a car and skipping school were all in a day"s work. He felt a duty to flaunt his dislike for authority. There wasn"t a confrontation he"d shy away from. Follow him as he remembers some of these fool-hearted adventures. He finally finds a way to straighten up, and when he does, he realizes there is a much smarter way to rebel. He has gifts-abilities that can provide an escape from orthodox Kinsey. Once in college, he finds a progressive set of people who do appreciate his gifts: writing, reading, and spouting politically charged rhetoric. The past is behind him. Unfortunately, Cam realizes that some things about himself haven"t changed. Delve into an agitator"s mind and see if he can navigate the changing landscape of the new millennium. Travel with Cam as an outspoken Social Democrat, one who has no qualms about debating the Conservative Texan, tries to emerge into more than just an ideologue. The battle over present-day convictions and social mores is on! Will Cam and Randess be left alone to tread their own pathway in the Lone Star State? Surely a new sun has arisen over the old prejudices of yesterday; the old prejudices of racism? People don"t view the world in black and white terms anymore-or do they? Marc A.
