It was in the late afternoon on the day before Thanksgiving in 2009 when I was laid off. Five minutes was all it took for the company"s precision human resource staff to deliver the news, paperwork and hand me a small cardboard box for those personal things that over time litter one"s office drawers and desk top. I had experienced a lot of things during my 43 years in the workforce but never this one.
