The move from Zimbabwe to Uganda is not an easy one for the two Labrador dogs,Yellow and Kiko. They spend the first two months with a host family, whose geriatric dog gives them an extremely hard time. Then, barely in their new home, their owner and they find a plastic bag containing a litter of abandoned puppies on the brink of death. Only one of the puppies survives: Lina, and the family lovingly raises her. In astonishment Yellow and Kiko watch the half-dead puppy come back to life. After conquering their initial jealousy of the new intruder, the two develop a strong affection for Lina, who becomes their new friend. The biggest obstacles overcome, they come across yet another abandoned puppy that they take in as well. The temperamental Kira revitalises her new family, quickly emerging as the clown of the now four-dog-strong troop. Through the eyes of the four dogs, the book portrays true stories out of the life of the family in Uganda and depicts the brutality with which dogs in this country are generally viewed and treated. In doing so the author gives an account of Ugandan life from the unique and individual perspective of each dog, thus allowing the reader to pursue these vividly described experiences through a dog"s eye. Authentic photographs from their life accompany this dogs" diary.
