Understanding why things happen is an important part of accepting certain circumstances and being able to live with the effects of those circumstances with love, forgiveness, and confidence. Joseph knew this lesson all too well when he was sold into slavery by his own brothers. Throughout years of slavery, imprisonment, betrayal, and heartbreak, Joseph embraced each circumstance with this mindset, "It was not you who sent me here, but God" (Genesis 45:8).
