When the great ex-England cricket captain Jonny Pickering retires from the professional arena and comes to live in the village of Upper Medlock it is the most wonderful news the local cricket team have ever had. For with Jonny in their side victory will be theirs for the taking in the annual blood match against their bitter rivals Lower Medlock. But for some reason the Lower Medlock team believe they have as much right as Upper Medlock to Pickering"s services. Pickering in the meantime is looking forward to a long and peaceful retirement.
