Nothing gives a luthier more pleasure than to feel the silky smooth actions of beautiful tuning machines on a finely crafted guitar. With so many different combinations of woods and inlays being used in instruments nowadays, it is only befitting that an appropriately matching set of turners grace the peghead of a custom made guitar. Gotoh tuners are made in Japan and are used by many well respected builders whose instruments cost thousands of dollars. Gears feel smoother, back lash is minimized and vibrato equipped guitars have excellent tuning stability. By incorporated close tolerance matching with a solid lubricating coat (permanently bonded to the worn gear), the need for grease or oil has been eliminated, keeping the lubrication where it is needed for the life of the tuning head. And, through a revolutionary new method of construction, all "rocking" movement (a constant cause of tuning instability especially when using a Vibrato) has been completely eliminated.
