Designed for upper secondary school students working under teacher supervision, this kit contains four components: "Genetic Engineering: Activities and Resources"; "Genetic Engineering: Science in Action"; "Genetic Engineering and Protein Synthesis" (video); and "Genetic Engineering - Exploring the Issues" (video). "Genetic Engineering: Activities and Resources" offers practical activities to give students an understanding of genetic engineering. "Genetic Engineering: Science in Action" is a book of readings complied from the CSIRO magazine "Rural Research" and provides an appreciation of the applications. The video of "Genetic Engineering and Protein Synthesis" gives an animated portrayal of DNA, protein synthesis and genetic engineering. The video "Genetic Engineering - Exploring the Issues" addresses the impact on society and the ethical issues involved through a series of interviews with prominent Australians. Also included in the package is a colour poster designed to stimulate discussion in the classroom, and a cardboard DNA model useful as a teaching aid and for classroom display.
