This is a history of the American canine heroes from World War I to the present day. Terriers, shepherds, collies, bulldogs, huskies and dobermans are only a few of the breeds that are selected to lead patrols, sniff out gas and booby traps, defend bases, pull sleds, search out caves and bunkers and parachute into combat. The author has collected stories and photographs that illustrate the bonds between war dogs and their masters who have worked together to save thousands of lives.
