One thing is for certain: at least standup persona Neil Hamburger"s take on X-rated comedy has a longer shelf life than most albums of its ilk. Perhaps that"s because Raw Hamburger, like all Neil Hamburger projects, is conceptual. The jokes are intentionally bad, his audience is a fickle lot, and Hamburger--despite a reportedly grueling tour schedule--isn"t a comedian you"re likely to see at the local comedy club anytime soon. On Raw Hamburger, jokes about Hamburger"s ex-wife, the IRS, blockbuster movies, and dirty diapers are interspersed with plenty of cursing and audience interplay. There aren"t a lot of funny jokes here, but taken as a whole, it"s as comical as standup gets. The risqué ditty "She Sits Among the Cabbages and Peas," a rare chance to hear Hamburger singing, is an added bonus. --Jason Verlinde
