This work focused on the Lewis and Clark Expedition in central Montana between the Marias River and the Gates of the Mountains, west to the Continental Divide. Although this is a relatively small part of the area explored by Lewis and Clark, the time they spent here is rich in discoveries and happenings. (excerpt from Introduction)
