Nia Lynn - voice Gareth Lockrane - flute Ross Stanley - piano Bannau takes its name from the Welsh for Brecon Beacons - Bannau Brycheiniog . It refers to the bright light of the beacon that guides the way through the mist, but also refers to the bleakness and foreboding of the vast open lands. The image is one of exploration and hope, shared by this new collective of three like-minded musicians (Gareth Lockrane and Ross Stanley) As well as playing through their favourite standards in an original and innovative way, the material also draws on folk, traditional and original compositions, work-shopped and adapted by the trio. The freedom of the line-up means that this group can traverse the unexpected areas of the music by experimenting with the role of the instruments and thus changing the sound of the trio to something vast, mysterious and compelling.
