This report demonstrates how changes in government policy could increase the capacity of Britain"s cities to provide much-needed housing. Based on research collated by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, it argues that urban centres in the UK can house many more people whilst maintaining local character and environmental balance. Key conclusions to the report state that: up to 90% more housing space could be created by redeveloping land which is derelict or underused; and more living space could be provided if new housing developments were not asked to provide as many parking spaces.
