For this remix album, the High Llamas ignore the usual constraints of the form, bypassing mere dance floor utility in favor of genuinely interesting sonic reinventions. The remixers-Mouse On Mars, Cornelius, Schneider TM, Jim O"Rourke, Kid Loco, Stock Hausen and Walkman, and highest Llama Sean O"Hagan-mostly keep only the barest outlines of the original tracks, refashioning each in their own styles. Mouse On Mars" wibbly-wobbly analogue synthesizers, Cornelius" playful Brian Wilson homages, Kid Loco"s slinky groove, and O"Rourke"s soundscapes are probably the most successful, but there"s little tedium on this 46-minute album.
