EAN/UPC/ISBN Code 9781845208271

"Cultural and Social History" is a new journal committed to furthering the dialogue between social and cultural historians. Its aim is to contribute to the reinvigoration of the discipline in the wake of the epistemological challenges that have brought into question many of the foundational assumptions of historians. The editors assume that "the cultural" and "the social" are mutually constitutive and inextricably linked. They believe that an appreciation of the constellation of cultural forces that confer meaning on the lives of historical actors is necessary if we are more fully to understand the social experience of individuals and groups in the past. Thus, "culture" is understood not as an entity distinct from "society", but as a product of social practice, and therefore at the heart of society itself. Articles are welcome that bridge what hitherto have been considered distinct subfields of the discipline or that draw effectively on the work of other disciplines in order to enhance our understanding of the past. No time period or part of the globe will be excluded from consideration.
