On their sophomore release, Silage turn their penchant for writing disposable novelty tunes (such as "My Car Makes Me Sin," "I Like the Radio," and their surf-punk cover of the Beach Boys" "Be True to Your School," all from their debut disc, Watusi) into a knack for turning out clever, quirky pop songs with just the right amount of attitude. "Let"s get lost in an original sound," reads the first line of the first song, "Original." And while we"ve heard this mix of hip-hop rhythms, distorted alternative-rock guitars, and the occasional surf melody before from groups like the Beastie Boys, Beck, Sublime, and 311, Silage know to keep their collective tongue firmly in cheek and refuse to take themselves too seriously while delivering serious entertainment bang for your buck. --Bradley S.
