My Family is a great starter puzzle featuring 16 different family members, with variations in age, colour and gender. None of the family are named allowing children to adapt the characters to their own personal environment. Each of the 8 puzzles is double sided, and we have colour coded them with either a red or blue line round the edge to make it easier for the children to sort the pieces out. Many of the characters also display emotions that a child should recognise, such as being cross/upset/happy/sleepy. Each top and bottom half fits any other, enabling children to mix, match and create funny people. Ask your child what sound each person"s name starts with, eg "muh" for Mum (not "em") Progress to talking about the different people who make up a family - are any of the people familiar as a family member or friend? Lots more tips on how to extend play value are included with the puzzle. There is a handy posting slot at the top of the box so that children can post their pieces and help with clearing away.
