DMX is an EIA-485 based communications protocol that is commonly used for stage lighting and stage effects. If you ever wondered how do they control all those stage lights, lasers, and other effects remotely from a single control point, now you know! You can take advantage of DMX lighting controls anywhere with your own USB DMX interface controller, the K8062 (kit) or VM116 (assembled). With it you can plug in a daisy-chain of XLR cables to a number of lights and fixtures that have a standard DMX input, set and map the addresses, and you"re all set!Sounds simple, huh? Well, here"s the next problem! What happens when you want to control standard incandescent lighting fixtures that don"t have a DMX control? It"s simple, use this simple single channel dimmer! This little dimmer circuit allows you to control a lamp or group of lamps with your DMX controller. It is designed to dim resistive loads such as incandescent lamps and line operated halogen lamps (not low voltage halogen"s!). The controller has a primary power input of 115/230VAC so it can be used with either primary power mains. Likewise, the output follows the input voltage to power the light(s) you connect.110VAC input will power 110VAC lights, 230VAC input will power 230VAC fixtures. The maximum resistive load is 1000 watts at 230VAC, or 500W at 115VAC. The dimmer can be programmed to any of the 512 DMX addresses with a simple dip switch. It also features a status LED for power and DMX error detection, toroidal filtering for low noise, and a standalone test mode. The DMX input is a standard XLR connector. The board measures 5.9" x 2.3" x 1.8". From Velleman.
