This monograph studies everyday literary life of the Russian diaspora between the two world wars as an esthetic phenomenon. The forms of literary life were basically the same as they were in pre-Revolutionary Russia, whereas the semantics of these forms necessarily underwent certain changes in the new cultural environment and because of the many hardships Russian emigres endured. The author considers the literary life of the diaspora as a unique cultural and spiritual space uniting people of different generations, political and esthetic beliefs. As a result, Russian emigre literature was being formed on the borderline of Russian classical literature, literatures of countries of asylum, and, to a certain degree, of new soviet literature, either as opposition to or in accord with the latter.
