The primary purpose of this dictionary is to enable the collector, dealer and student to identify bronzes that bear a signature. For this reason I have cast the net rather wider than was strictly necessary, since there is a large and ill-defined area of activity, in which sculptors better known for their direct-carving may also have modeled in clay or wax and such preliminary models and studies may have subsequently been cast in bronze.
