COTTONSEED EASY SIX is a memoir of the original Company E, 23rd Infantry Regiment from their arrival in Korea in August,1950, until the last survivor rotated home in May 1951. As an 18 year-old radio operator of Company E, I chronicled the day-to-day life of E Company from the Pusan perimeter defense to within 60 miles of the Yalu River at a place called Chinaman"s Hat. The Chinese entered the war and pushed us back to South Korea. The memoir of battles and what Company E endured is depicted by the soldiers living and dying in front line combat. Company E fought in some well known battles such as the Pusan Perimeter, Chipyong-ni, Wonju, Operation Killer and Ripper to mention a few. Many of the events reported in the memoir were unknown to most Americans. The reader learns what fighting by a front line Company is like and is able to share what the men endured. They"ll learn how soldiers are able to keep sane in the worst of conditions. The memoir relates many of the things surviving soldiers have never told their families even after they returned home. But the story has to be told so future generations can honor them for what they accomplished.
