This volume forms part of a larger project concerning the activity of the British in the Adriatic in the latter period of the wars against Napoleon. It attempts an integrated approach covering military and naval as well as political and diplomatic aspects. A detaioled study, it presents the context in which it became increasingly important for the British to occupy and fortify the strategically important island of Vis, and the slow development of British intentions and their realisation.
