This made Kenny feel, even more than he had done before, that it was not very pleasant to have a Newfoundland dog along when one was taking a bath. Mr. Meridett said they would go home by the road, and not through the fields as they had come. "The road is longer," said he, "but then it is more pleasant. I do not want to take you through the grass again." "0, I do not mind it; I like adventures." "Yes, that will be pleasant to think of, and you can put it into your diary, though it is not quite equal to your falling into the water." Kenny still kept the diary which is described in the first volume of this series, and was especially accustomed to have recorded in it any thing which occurred during his walks with his cousin. When they came to the place where they had to decide whether they would go home by the road or through the field, Kenny said he was perfectly willing to go the same way they had come; but Mr. Meridett said that, on the whole, he preferred the road, as he generally liked in a walk to go one way and return another, so as to have greater variety.
