In 1968, a collection of prayers used by Catholics through the centuries was published in Latin by the Holy See. To foster further prayer among the faithful, several bishops requested that the prayers be translated by the International Commission on English in the Liturgy. This translation is now available. Presented in a language and style suitable to the needs of the contemporary Church, it is the only uniform translation available to English-speaking readers. With accompanying words and expressions appropriate for our times, A Tradition of Prayer can now be used by new generations of Catholics.It is through the liturgy that the Church best expresses its nature as the body of Christ. The Second Vatican Council began its work for renewal in the Church by revising liturgical forms and promoting public worship celebrations. At the same time, the Council encouraged personal prayer and devotion which are in harmony with the renewed liturgy.The guidelines for prayer presented in this book will help readers reaffirm the value of these prayers and devotions.
