Shiva is the most important god in Hinduism. The name "Shiva" means purity and the origin. Among the trinity of Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu, Shiva is the controller of destruction. Although Shiva is the god of destruction, Indians believe deeply that Shiva has the absolute ability of prediction thus makes the absolute destruction the beginning of a whole new creation. For Shaivism, the southern Indian branch of Hinduism, Shiva transcends the quality of destruction and is the main god of destruction, creation, prediction, omitting sins and blessing. The significance of Shiva in Indian religion and history is undoubted. So when this god in Indian myth became a delicate, with naive look but complicated inner character designed by Dutch illustration master Faiyaz Jafri, would any information related to modern life be revealed? The answer lies in this annual collection, which was assembled by PPAPER and High Note Records. Shiva brings the bliss of creation and fertility to Indian culture and makes spirituality sprout from poor life. Shiva also extracts the munificent cultural energy and expresses it in the music and dance, which can be quiet or vigorous. This is the inspiration of ®PPAPER-Shiva¯.There are 14 masterpieces by some masters who are especially good at bringing the Indian /Pakistani musical elements to modern electronic and crossover music styles. The masters include Bally Sagoo, Annamika and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan...etc. The attitude of believing in god and being positive towards life, which is held by the people who live close to the Ganges, is floated in the album. As the melodies that mix ancient and modern times come through the barriers of time and space, they become the mystic and luxurious relief in city life. They bring the pleasure enjoyed by both the gods and human beings. What deserves to be mentioned is that after the well-acclaimed visual design by the Japanese illustrator Ed Tsuwaki for®PPAPER - Epice / Alcool¯in 2005, we invited the Dutch computer art master Faiyaz Jafri to present a whole new vision for® PPAPER-Anahita / Shiva¯this year. Faiyaz is good at creating minimalist virtual space. He reduces the details of the characters, whereas make them more true to life. His works combine with innocent and dazzling terror and humor, express the subtle antagonism of humanity, challenge our traditional concepts and stimulate deep thoughts.
