Since the founding of the Hamrahlíðar College Choir in 1967, it has served as a kind of a musical greenhouse for the creation of new Icelandic choral music. Thorgerður Ingólfsdóttir has cultivated a remarkable musical garden premiering over 70 new works with her young students over the course of 40 years. Of many Icelandic composers who have been associated with the choir, Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson is the most prolific.
