The group"s kind of a mixed vocal/instrumental one - an ensemble that features equal emphasis on vocal harmonies and instrumental musings - all with a sound that"s quite unique! Some tracks are instrumental, others have the vocals right up front - especially those that feature the contributions of the Men On A Mission quartet - a vocal group that"s steeped in gospel influences, but more directed towards the spiritual jazz leanings of Lancaster and Jamal. The rest of the lineup includes percussion, piano, and additional vocals from Reverend Joe Craddock - and the set bills itself as "a devotional journey through jazz history from Africa to Coltrane" - which is a pretty good description of the set!
