"Story and Structure" was written for the college student who is beginning serious study of fiction. Its initial Assumption is the some stories repay more richly than others the time and effort of reading them, and its objective is to help the reader identify, understand, enjoy and prefer such stories. To this end it examines the major elements of fiction and suggests some criteria for judgment.
