It was during the making of a radio programme where Nina Van Horn was telling the story of the Pioneers of Blues that she had the idea of remaking in her manner, their most daring, committed or funny songs... With Hell of a woman we discover texts which are incredibly up to date, treating alcoholism, drug addiction, lesbianism and racism in everyday life. Texts written by women who had to fight to survive during the twenties, thirties and forties: Victoria Spivey, Memphis Minnie, Lil Green, Georgia White, Kate McTell, Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Mildred Bailey, Rosetta Tharpe, and Billie Holiday.
