It is thought proper here to annex, by way of illustrabon, the following table, for the more npecial P«n?ose of enabling the reader to form some idea of the early ages at which it has been usual to employ children in the Spinning Manufactories. It will appear from th.s scak, j1" the largest of such Factories in the town of Manchester, (viz. Messrs Me Connell and Kennedy"s) that of 1115 persons there employed, 344 began to work in Cotton Mills before they were 9 years of age. An Account of Messrs. Birley and Hornby"s Work-people. The Ages of those who when the Report was made out were 16 years of Age and upwards. The number of persons employed under 16 years of age is 470, as pep Appendix to the Minutes of Evidence, pages 73 to 80.
