Bs 7750: Implementing the Environment Management Standard and the Ec Eco-Management Scheme
In 1992 the British Standards Institution established BS 7750 as a standard for environmental control in the manufacturing and services sector. BS 7750 allows organizations to demonstrate that they meet health and safety regulations, local and national environmental requirements and the latest industry codes of practice. Compliance with the Standard will give considerable protection against claims under product liability and against unjustified charges of negligence. Both the impending EC Eco-scheme Regulations and a new ISO Standard are expected to reflect the requirements of BS 7750 and buyers - particularly in public procurement - will begin to look for the Standard in prospective suppliers, as they already do for ISO 9000. Brian Rothery"s book is aimed at senior management, including chief executives, quality managers and all managers responsible for operational processes and for transport and distribution procedures. It explains the background to the Standard and provides a practical guide to installing and maintaining the relevant systems, complete with details of certification procedures. It includes specimen documentation and generic models for the registers and the manual specified by the Standard. The system described is designed to meet the requirements of both BS 7750 and the new EC Eco-management scheme.
