Kazunari Sakamoto: Houses
Kazunari Sakamato is one of Japan"s most important residential architects. Winner of the Togo Murano Award and the Architectural and Institute of Japan Award, and successor to Kazuo Shinohara at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Sakamoto has been exploring the seemingly "ordinary" in house design for some 35 years. His multilayered structures arise from plans that are, like many in Japan, elegantly confined to compact spaces, but that nonetheless unfold a complex poetry of their own, simultaneously simple and evocative of the complex realities of everyday life. This monograph on Sakamoto"s houses, the first published, contains plans and detailed drawings specially prepared by the editors of the renowned German technical magazine Detail, as well as large-format high-quality photographs.
