This work explores the history, aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and treatment of systemic, cutaneous and drug-induced lupus. It contains extensive material on the basic science aspects of this disease, with information on cellular and humeral immunity, autoantibodies, and the lupus anticoagulant. Individual chapters highlight the clinical manifestations of lupus on each body system, and in this edition, which has been heavily revised, there are 20 new chapters which contain coverage of apoptosis, stress tolerance, osteoporosis, allergies, and future directions. Additional treatment algorithms in clinical chapters are included to enhance the scope in treatment, and there are expanded sections on history, hormones, antospholipid antibodies and dermatology.
