The Dallas County Voters league began seeking avneues in the 1940"s to gradually transform the oppressive environment in which their race was lived. The quiet and protracted Civil Rights struggle culminated in 1963, when Black students fromHudson High School in Selma became pivotal participants in launching the public movement. The Selma campaign was in jeopardy of folding in late 1964. Local leaders invited Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to come to Selma and assist them in the final phase of thier campaign. He came and the rest is history.
