Using the experiences of staff, families and residents, the author examines the transition and relocation into the community of ex-residents of Wentwood Education, near Devizes in Wiltshire, a college for adolescents with developmental disabilities. Through the words of the students, she presents an analysis of their progress in the community; the problems they face and concludes that abilities gained at Wentwood "gave these young disadvantaged students a distinct advantage in life".
