Published over many years, complete sets of previous edition shave been hard to come by. This reissue makes more widely available to historians a vast range of material relating to all aspects of 18th-century scientific advances. The volumes contain Cook"s accounts of his three great voyages in the Endeavour and the Resolution; introductions and detailed notes accompany the texts, and extracts from the journals of Cook"s shipmates are printed as appendices. A separate portfolio contains the manuscript charts and views drawn by Cook and his officers, which he regarded as an essential complement to his Journals.
