The Chicago-Latrobe 769 series straight-flute drill bit is made from carbide with an uncoated (bright) finish and has a 140-degree 4-facet point to penetrate without a pilot hole and reduce clogging on cast iron, and non-ferrous and hardened materials. Straight flutes drill shallow and horizontal holes. Solid carbide is harder than high-speed or cobalt steel to provide better wear resistance and to prolong tool life at high speeds. The uncoated finish provides an untreated surface. The self-centering 140-degree 4-facet point provides strength and high accuracy to penetrate material more easily than a conventional point, and produces small chips to reduce clogging. The round shank accommodates most drill chucks.Drill bits are cutting tools used to make holes in a range of materials using machines such as handheld portable drills, machining centers, and lathes. The material being drilled along with the intended drilling depth determine the length and style of drill bit that should be used.Chicago-Latrobe manufactures drill bits and accessories, reamers, countersinks, and blanks. The company, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Clemson, SC, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 9001.
