Freda Stark first gained fame in the 1930s as a witness in a murder trial. It was alleged that she and the victim were lovers. The husband was convicted on the murder. In the 40"s she gained greater notoriety when she danced in little more than gold paint for adoring American serviceman, and later became an icon for the gay community.
