The first in the author"s "Byzantine Trilogy" is set on Patmos, where Helena Taggart, a successful academic, maintains a dilapidated mansion for the benefit of her elderly Russian aunt. Patmos provides the background against which certain revelations emerge to destroy or resurrect their hopes.
